Vons is an American supermarket chain founded in 1906 in Los Angeles, California, by Charles Von der Ahe. Von der Ahe introduced the concept of “cash and carry” to the area, and by 1928 Vons had expanded to 87 stores. Vons opened the first self-service produce, meat, and deli departments in 1948, further helping the company expand. By the late 1970s, Vons branched out extensively to become the #1 grocery store chain in Souther California. Today, Vons is part of the Albertsons Companies, and is committed to giving back to its communities through hunger relief, education, medical research, and veteran outreach programs.
