About King Soopers

King Soopers was founded back in 1924 in Grand Junction, Colorado as City Market. It wasn’t until 1947 in Arvada, Colorado that the retailer became known as King Soopers. Today, King Soopers is a major regional supermarket chain in the Rocky Mountains region of the U.S., in particular in Colorado. It is a subsidiary of Kroger, who is the parent company of not only King Soopers, but also numerous other supermarket chains located throughout the United States, such as: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food Stores, Harris Teeter, JayC, Quality Food Centers, Ralphs, and Smith’s Food & Drug.

There are currently 159 King Soopers locations in the U.S., specifically in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico. The overwhelming majority (155) of these locations are found in Colorado, but a handful can be found in Wyoming (2), Utah (1), and New Mexico (1) as well. Some of King Soopers’ most prominent locations include its stores in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, though stores also exist in various other cities and towns throughout the western and central parts of Colorado.
