FATHER’S DAY

FATHER’S DAY is a holiday celebrated throughout the world that honors fatherhood. In the United States, Fathers’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. However, in many parts of the world, including South America and Spain, it is celebrated on March 19th, St. Joseph’s Day. The American Father’s Day celebration began in honor of a large group of miners from West Virginia who died in a mining accident in 1907. The festivity was created by Sonora Smart Dodd, and was first celebrated in the Spokane, Washington, YMCA. It was made into an official US holiday by President Richard Nixon in 1972.
