This is it, the last hoorah! The Summer months are winding down! Plan wisely and make the best of these fleeting last weeks as when it’s gone, it’s gone. So best to get in those barbeques, hang out on the patio that you recently remodeled and share these last few weeks with family and friends – time to take inventory of our blessings through these trying times. And let’s give a final hoorah to our local heroes, those first responders and medical crews at the front line who worked their ‘masks’ off for all of us. In the spirit of better times to come, we have assembled some reward worthy offerings for you to quaff with your favorite cut of beef, seafood and vegetable. And as always, drink outside the box. MONTHLY SELECTIONS MAMAMANGO MOSCATO RE G U L A R $15.99 GA ZE T T E S PE C I A L $9.99 When I first saw this bottle, I had certain expectations, and they weren’t high. I imagined a sickly sweet synthetic tasting beverage which is everything that a traditionalist would abhor. However, when I popped the bottle, the immediate senses were dominated with fresh mango. I happen to love mango, I love it fresh, in salsa and grilled, but this was anything but lab created and quite a wonderful surprise. The nose was as true as one could imagine, with floral notes from the Moscato sprinkled in. The flavors were as fresh and elegant as the nose, with a delicate frizzante prickle, not full on sparkling but the perfect lift for the sweet flavors of Moscato and Mango. This delicately sweet but not syrupy surprise is fruity, balanced, elegant and outright delicious, even for a guy who prefers things on the sharper side. THIS WOULD PAIR WONDERFULLY WITH EGGS BENEDICT, FRESH CUT FRUITS. I’M THINKING AN OUTSTANDING BRUNCH PARTNER AS IT’S A MEAGER 6% ALCOHOL, OR JUST SIPPING ON ONE OF OUR SUNBAKED SUMMER AFTERNOONS. Geoff Nicoll Dir. Beer, Wine & Spirits OBVIOUS WINES NO. 5 FRENCH & BUBBLY RE G U L A R $26.99 GA ZE T T E S PE C I A L $23.99 Made using 60% Chenin Blanc, 35% Chardonnay, 5% Cabernet Franc, this Cremant from the Loire Valley, France will not disappoint. Light body, medium acidity, dry and slightly fruity. You will find hints of pear and melon lingering around a floral bouquet. Bubbles are fine and well integrated, not overwhelming at all. PAIRS WELL WITH SEAFOOD, FRESH FRUIT AND YES, BIRTHDAY CAKE. Michael Contreras Wine Specialist Beverly Hills AUGUST 2021 SCHRAMSBERG NAPA VALLEY BRUT ROSÉ REG ULAR $54.99 GAZETTE SP E CIAL $44.99 91 Points Wine Enthusiast This wine has generous amounts of strawberry, watermelon, and raspberry. PAIR THIS GORGEOUS WINE WITH ALL YOUR SUMMER CELEBRATIONS SUCH AS, BRIDAL SHOWERS, BABY SHOWERS, GENDER REVEAL PARTIES OR A SUMMER WEDDING! Jared Marchant Wine Specialist Palm Desert CHT. GALINIERE LE CENGLE PROVENCE ROSÉ REG ULAR $15.99 GAZETTE SP E CIAL $12.99 Chateau Galiniere is situated just outside of Aix-enProvence and is situated relatively high on a plain in the foothills of the Montagne Ste Victoire. The soils are rugged iron rich red clay with sand and limestone deposits, the farming is organic and was certified such in 2014. The Mediterranean’s powerful Mistral winds, while punishing, aren’t without merits as they dry out the canopy and keep vine disease at bay. The vineyard management team keep a watchful eye on ripening, and at the precise time pull some of the green growth to enable more complete ripening. The diurnal shifts in temperature permits the warm days to facilitate ripening while the cooler nights provide for even maturity while promoting acidity. Harvest is done at night and fermentation is at low temperatures to preserve freshness. The resulting stunningly beautiful pink is delicious and energetic with strawberry, watermelon, pink grapefruit, notes of garrigue and some savory verbena notes! GREAT WITH WHITE OR RED FLESHED FISH, CURED MEATS, GRILLED VEGETABLES AND SALTY CHEESES. Geoff Nicoll Dir. Beer, Wine & Spirits DAOU VINEYARDS PASO ROBLES ROSÉ 2020 RE GULAR $26.99 GAZ E TTE SP E CI A L $22.99 Summer is in full swing and big, heavy reds are the last thing I want to start the evening with - Rosé is the answer… Flavorful yet refreshing… complex, but never over-complicated. Daou Vineyards makes wines in the French style and this rosé was inspired by the famous rosés of Provence, France. Made from 95% Grenache Noir and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. The vines are hand-pruned, the grapes are hand-picked at night to retain freshness and cold soaked for up to 7 days. The aromas remind me of lychee, peach blossoms and dried hibiscus. The wine is clean and crisp on the tongue with notes of citrus, peach and back notes of mango. PAIR WITH SUMMER SALADS, FRESH BERRIES AND WATERMELON. ALSO GOES BEST WITH CLOSE FRIENDS, BONFIRES AND CALIFORNIA SUNSETS. Erik Moreno Level 1 Court of Sommeliers; Wine Specialist Westchester TREFETHEN NAPA VALLEY OAK KNOLL DRY RIESLING RE GULAR $19.99 GAZ E TTE SP E CI A L $17.99 The Trefethen family has been growing grapes since the 1960’s.
